We add the drum beats of our street band to picket lines, demonstrations and all forms of resistance to bullying managements, austerity, racism and war. Never has it been more urgent for working people to raise their voice and exert their power to put a stop to attacks on our living standards, the cuts to welfare, and attempts to divide us by racism, gender or yet more wars. We bring carnival art forms to working class fight back. Samba is the loudest natural sound system. To combine it with working class fight back samba becomes the rhythm that cannot be stopped and resistance becomes inspirational. Africans forcibly taken to Brazil by European colonialists joined with South American Indians and together they developed samba as a weapon of resistance. Within carnival performance they acted out ‘turning the world upside down’. We have to find our own unity, within and across trade unions, between working class men and women, and across ethnic and religious divisions. And we have to actually turn the world upside down – where the rich and powerful no longer rule the roost. We are based in Tottenham, north London.
